Millionaires don't have astrologers, billionaires do.

~John Pierpoint Morgan

Astrology is not mere superstition but contains some psychological facts (like theosophy) which are of considerable importance. Astrology has actually nothing to do with the stars but is the 5000-year-old psychology of antiquity and the Middle Ages.

We did make Roberta's second album around an astrological theme because she wanted to and because we know the Americans are crazy about astrology.

Gems - The Magical Stones

One of the important tenets in Vedic Astrology is the belief that gems have curative powers. This science holds that the planetary position in our natal chart (horoscope) affects our life in a particular manner. Sometimes, these positions can affect us adversely, causing us harm. It is in such a situation that the use of gems comes into place.

In India, right since the time of the Vedic age, people have been using gems - precious and semi-precious stones - as amulets. It is believed that even in that age people knew the power of gems along with their relationship to the planets. The use of gems finds a mention in the ancient Indian scriptures called the ‘Puranas’. In fact, ancient masters even used to instruct the sculptors who would make the idols of the gods, to encrust the idols with gems. The purpose of this activity was specifically to reduce the ill effect of malefic planets on the worshippers.

Basically, a gem has a reflective surface according to the way in which it is cut and polished. This gem acts as a kind of regulator by absorbing or reflecting the rays of the planetary bodies according to our needs.

Following is a list of gems, also called birthstones.

For example, if Mars is placed in our horoscope and is influencing us too strongly, in that situation we can become very aggressive. In such a case, if we wear a stone (red coral or the gems that can influence the planet Mars), it will reflect the rays of Mars and will not allow our sensing organs to accept these extreme rays and thus let us keep a check on our aggression. Similarly, in case Mars is malefic or too weak, one can become very negative and even allow others to dominate him/her. In such a situation, the same stone will absorb sufficient rays from Mars and send them to the sensing fluids situated in our brain and thus balance the cosmic rays and make the person behave normally.

Similarly, various others gems are believed to regulate the cosmic rays of the various planets, the Sun, the Moon and Rahu and Ketu, collectively referred to as ‘Grahas’ in Vedic Astrology.

Thus, a Vedic Astrologer prescribes a particular gem to an individual as a remedy to deflect the harm causing rays of a malefic planet. However, when buying a gem a couple of things must be kept in mind. First is, of course, the weight (measured in carats, 1 carat = 200 mgs.). One must use the specific weight prescribed by the Astrologer. In astrological remedies, different weight of gems are prescribed to individuals based on several factors such as severity of planetary complications, age, gender and health.

Mostly, it is advised to wear gems in a metallic casing (gold or silver) in the form of a ring or a pendant. However, it must be ensured that when ring or pendant is worn, one surface of the gem directly touches the skin. This is so that the cosmic rays absorbed by the gem from the planets are directly transferred to the sensing fluids in the brain and various energy centres in the body called 'Chakras'. Most of the gems are faceted and mounted in such a way that the flat top portion faces the planet and thus acts as the absorption point and the narrow pointed surface touches the skin. Thus, the open top portion collects the planetary rays from the respective planets and through the pointed portion channelises the absorbed rays to the body.
